Conversations with Missy: Supernatural Matt Cohen
Whenever I cover a Creation convention, I never know what I will actually get: who I will run into, what I will capture, or whether an interview I asked for will come through. This Orlando weekend was full of surprises. Some of them were the usual kind. One of them was personal.
When I submitted my on-camera interview list, which, let’s be honest, was almost everyone, I put a note next to David Haydn-Jones: “I ADORE him.” I wanted that interview. While I waited to hear back, my daughter who was also our assistant for the weekend, and I finally had a window to be fans, so we headed to the vendor/celebrity guest room. We walked up to David’s table to say hello.
He was extremely gracious and asked what our plans were. I told him we would be there all weekend because I was covering the event. He asked if I was with the publication doing interviews. I said yes. Then he told me we would be sitting down later that day, that it had just been approved.
I tried to play it cool. I did not succeed. I walked away with my daughter, eyes already welling up with tears, as I thought, is this really happening? I kept checking my email for the official confirmation and details. When they came, the news was better than I expected. I was meeting staff to go over the setup, and I was told I would be interviewing not only David, but Adam Fergus as well. I did tell the Creation Staff (Jaci and Briar) that David had already spoiled the surprise. We all laughed.
Unlike the other interviews that weekend, this one took place in a hotel suite. The quiet mattered. It was not rushed. We could have a real conversation with both of them in the same room. They answered the fan question about the songs they chose for Friday night’s Broadway show and why those songs mattered. That led into their costumes and props, which led into cosplay. I am a huge fan of it, and they asked me about my favorite costume. From there, each of them talked about current and upcoming projects fans can actually support. What stayed with me was watching David and Adam share things the other did not always know, including work outside Supernatural. For a little while it felt less like a press hit and more like three people talking. They trusted the room enough to go past the polished answers, on camera and off. I am still grateful for that.
Before we sat down, I had time to collect a fan question for both of them: What songs did you choose for Friday night’s Broadway show, and why? What do those songs mean to you? The answers are in the interview. Watch it.
We had already caught their first joint panel before we knew the interview was happening. It was so good that we went back the next day to watch the next one that also featured Gill McKinney. They fielded fan questions, talked over each other in the useful way longtime scene partners do, and moved from advice to embarrassing stories without losing the room. For some people in that audience, getting a question in was the whole point of the weekend. They sure did get some fun answers too.
Orlando was a Supernatural convention, but neither of them is only that résumé. Adam currently appears in Hallmark’s Haunted Harmony Mysteries: Prelude to a Wedding, the fourth film in the series, opposite Tamera Mowry-Housley. He plays Inspector O’Reilly. The movie premiered September 5 on Hallmark Channel and is streaming on Hallmark+. David’s 2011 holiday film Dear Santa, directed by Jason Priestley and co-starring Amy Acker, is marking its 15th anniversary with a showing in Petoskey, Michigan. He is also hosting a Christmas weekend December 4–6 at the Inn at Bay Harbor. If you are planning that trip, that stretch of early December is when Petoskey and Bay Harbor lean hard into holiday events, so the setting fits the movie.
You can also find both of them on the rest of Creation Entertainment’s The Road So Far… The Road Ahead dates through 2026, with 2027 stops already going on sale. David’s next announced Creation cities after Orlando include Charlotte (September 25–27), Vancouver (October 9–11), and Columbus (October 16–18). Guest lists change, so check creationent.com before you buy.
David is also co-owner of Ultimate Meet and Greet, which books smaller, more personal fan events beyond the main convention circuit. If the big ballroom weekend is not what you want, or not all you want, that is the other place to look. Send them an email for more information here OMG@UltimateMeetandGreet.com. David also runs a Patreon, where he shares more direct updates and extras for fans who want to follow his work between events. View that here.
The interview is the reason this piece exists. The table conversation is why I still cannot write about it at a distance. I asked. He said yes. Then Adam was part of it too. That is the whole story, and it is enough.~ Missy
