Beyond The Music with Laura: Casey Donahew at Cheyenne Frontier Days

We have all heard the term "indie artist" and what this typically means is an unsigned musician, one who has not yet had the good fortune to be "picked up by a label". However, this term has gotten a bad rap previously and more and more you see artists taking control of their own careers and carving their own path through this crazy business called the music industry.

During our trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming for the 121st Cheyenne Frontier Days, I had the opportunity to talk with Indie artist, Casey Donahew and find out a little more about this amazing artist who, yes, is "independent", one who is not signed with or more importantly, controlled by a major record label.

While not his first time at Cheyenne Frontier Days, Donahew was not just a spectator this year, he was the opening for the headliner, Jason Aldean, at one of the "Frontier Nights" performances. Not a bad bill to be a part of and it definitely fits with Donahew's style of country.

He has been described as a few different things, ranging from "Texas country" to "country with a rock and roll edge".  The problem with throwing a specific genre on him is that he does not fit into any of the boxes currently labeled as one or the other.

Watch the video of our conversation and listen as we discuss what this particular gig means to him, what his fans and faithful followers mean to this journey that has lasted over a decade and while the money a big label would bring, Donahew is perfectly happy doing it his way.

A 15th-anniversary album and show to celebrate all the ups and the downs that they have experienced over this time period are currently in the works and teasers are already appearing on his website and social media.

Make sure to head on over to the website and get signed up for the newsletter and follow him on all social media platforms to stay up to date on the most recent news and tour dates with Donahew as well as the anniversary album release date.

You do not want to miss out on the next couple of decades of this artist. Donahew is showing us all that a dream, hard work, dedication and a settle for nothing less than success attitude can achieve.

About Laura Lou

Laura Lou Journalist

Beginning about age 13, music always been my “safe place”, my “escape”, it became a part of who I am. My background includes being a photographer/journalist for newspapers, magazines and radio stations and more recently I have been an artist manager. What I continue to strive to learn is, what is important to the fans/readers? I find that the answer is always that they want to feel close to the artist they are supporting. The human contact that we all need is something that I want to deliver to anyone that happens to read something I write or see a photograph I shoot. It is important to me to provide that experience, because I am, after all, still always a “fan” and that giddy 13-year-old girl is simply amazed! I never imagined that my passion and love for music would lead me where I am today! I use the hashtag #iamtheluckiestgirliknow because I cannot believe how blessed I am! I’m excited to see “what happens next” and take you all along with me! This is going to be amazing…
