Don Felder: From Eagles Icon to Philanthropic Rocker

by Missy Wolf / 12 hours ago / Comments

Don Felder, the legendary guitarist and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer best known for his tenure with the Eagles, has left an indelible mark on music history. Famous for crafting iconic riffs and solos in hits like "Hotel California," Felder's passion for music stems from his childhood battle with polio, where hospital radio broadcasts provided solace and inspiration. Now 77, he continues to channel that resilience into both his career and charitable efforts.

Felder's deep connection to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is profoundly personal. Drawing parallels between his own childhood illness and the battles faced by young patients at St. Jude's, which specializes in treating childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases, he actively supports the organization. Since its founding in 1962, St. Jude's has dramatically improved childhood cancer survival rates from 20% to over 80%, and Felder's involvement helps fund this vital work.

To further this cause, Felder launched the "Rock & Roll Retreat" Sweepstakes, a charity contest benefiting St. Jude's. Running through September 6, 2025, the sweepstakes offers one lucky winner an ultimate Nashville getaway from October 23 to 26, 2025. Prizes include a private one-on-one guitar lesson with Felder himself, round-trip airfare, a three-night luxury hotel stay, a tour of the Gibson Garage and Vault, tickets to the Musicians Hall of Fame Museum, attendance at a Gibson Showcase Event featuring Felder, an autographed bass drum head, and an Epiphone G-1275 Double-Neck Custom electric guitar. Entry is free, but a $50 donation counts as one entry and directly supports St. Jude's mission. Those entering by August 15, 2025, also have a shot at winning a Les Paul Standard ’50s Figured Top guitar. Fans can participate at donfelder.com/contests.

Amid his philanthropic pursuits, Felder remains active on the road. He's currently on "The Brotherhood of Rock Tour," serving as a special guest opener for rock legends Styx and former REO Speedwagon frontman Kevin Cronin. The tour, marking their sixth collaboration, wraps up on August 24, 2025, in Milwaukee, with Felder also scheduling solo headlining shows in September and October. This blend of music and giving back exemplifies Felder's enduring legacy as a rock icon with a heart for helping others.

As Felder continues to inspire through his music, tours, and unwavering commitment to St. Jude's, there's no better way to uncover the untold stories behind his journey, from the highs of rock stardom to the personal triumphs over adversity, than diving into an exclusive, no-holds-barred discussion that reveals layers rarely seen. Watch as our show's producer, Seth Griffin, tackled some tough subjects with never-before-asked questions. This is one conversation you do not want to miss. Watch it right here to experience the raw, riveting insights straight from the legend himself. It is a must-watch for any true fan eager to go beyond the headlines. ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
