Conversations with Missy: Hank Cochran PEN Fund Series, Payton Smith
Welcome back to our continued coverage of the Hank Cochran PEN Fund series at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville Tenne. Let me introduce our next artist, Payton Smith.
Imagine being a 16 year old with a dream of pursuing a music career. Would your parents support you? Would they allow you to spend two weeks at home, then travel to Nashville, Tenne. to spend two weeks there? Would they travel with you and load up your three young siblings? For most of us, that answer is "NO" due to various life complications. Luckily for Smith, his family was on board.
Having embarked on this musical journey with their son, there is no doubt in my mind that this decision is one they will never regret. Allowing him to chase his dream while accommodating this seemingly challenging schedule is also something that Smith is likely to be thankful for the rest of his life.
During our conversation, Smith showed so much appreciation for being able to take part in such a special event. Through the stories he has heard about Hank Cochran, it was easy to see his admiration for the late songwriter. I asked him about being in the presence of the phenomenal talent that filled the room, and his response was more than what I expected.
We spoke about incredible moments he has already been able to experience like, meeting his music hero Keith Urban. Witnessing the level of excitement and gratitude within this young man was very heartwarming, however, it was his lyrics and delivery of his song "Hand Me Downs" that blew most of us away. As a special treat, Smith agreed to sing some of that powerful song just for you. Sit back, turn up the volume and be ready to be moved by this brilliant up and coming country artist.
Please do not forget to follow him on social media and send him a shout out. ~Missy
