Conversations with Missy: Doug Gray of The Marshall Tucker Band
As we get ready for the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, I took the opportunity to have an impromptu conversation with Doug Gray of The Marshall Tucker Band. Being the only original band member, I was sure that Gray would have some amazing stories to share. I was not wrong.
The Marshall Tucker Band formed in 1972. To date, they have released 22 studio albums, 3 DVD’s, 3 live CDs and countless compilations. 7 of their albums have gone Gold and 3 have gone Platinum. Their success over the years is the result of hard work and lasting friendships. We discussed many of these friendships, including his lasting friendship with Prince. Learning of his death has been devastating to the world. Listen to our conversation now to hear Gray and I discuss the loss of his dear friend and music icon.
Known for killing it on stage during every performance, I am excited to see them on Sunday's show at Stagecoach 2016. I am also excited to have a beer with Gray after. Yes, I am seizing that opportunity as well. I promise to take pictures if possible.
There is so much to this band that I did not realize. While talking with Gray, he told me of his connection to Florida Georgia Line and shared a great memory of a time he was in Houston, Texas years ago. This story involves a famous hotel chain, a car, a busted window and a flying object. Are you curious? Listen now to hear this funny story.
Be sure to get your copy of the latest release from The Marshall Tucker Band, Live in the UK 1976. Released on their own record label, Ramblin Records, they are sure to keep releasing songs that country music fans will be proud of. Also, follow them on social media, check out their tour dates and do not miss your chance to see a performance. If you are heading to CMA Fest this summer, you can catch them on Saturday night at the Nissan Stage singing the National Anthem. You will not want to miss them. ~Missy
