Conversations with Missy: Jimmy Star
In the entertainment industry, there are many people behind the scenes. There are many hands working to make others successful. Then there are those who seem to be a part of it all. One of those entertainment masters happens to be the “Godfather of Indie Artists”, Jimmy Star.
Star is more than just the “Director of Operations” Urban/Pop Division at Spectra Music Group. He also has his own radio and television show, The Jimmy Star Show (airs Wednesdays 3 pm to 5 pm EST at W4CM.com Radio). Star’s show has gained a huge following with guests that include Skeet Ulrich (Scream), Illeana Douglas (Cape Fear) and many more. The show now has its own ROKU channel, is syndicated in 8 markets, seven countries, iHeart Radio and iTunes. It is also the number one web show.
During our conversation, Star shared his captivating story of how he landed his own radio show and how he is able to balance both jobs. Star has a personality that draws people in. You cannot help but want to share your own story with him. That is exactly what happened with our conversation, and I found myself immediately wanting to learn from him. Star has a genuine gift. His technique is brilliant. Getting artists to open up and talk instead of asking them the same boring interview questions they are used to is refreshing. Star intrigued me from the start. Listen as we discuss our similar approach to speaking with artists.
I wanted to know about his job role at Spectra Music Group. Where does he find talent? What does he do to help artists succeed? What you will hear in our conversation is how great Spectra Music Group is for incredibly talented artists such as David Britt and Ronnie Eaton. Sadly, it seems that so many people think the “Top 40” artists are the most talented and successful. Listen as Star and I share our views on the extraordinary talents of indie artists. As you all know, Center Stage Magazine is committed to sharing these talents with everyone. People such as Jimmy Star help us make that possible.
By the end of our conversation, I was more inspired to keep doing what I love, the way I love to do it. Star has offered his experience, twitter expertise (I am new and need followers) and friendship to me, so I gladly accepted. I hope you enjoy listening to this amazing talent himself.
Be sure to follow him on social media, follow his show as well and share it with everyone you know. ~Missy
