Conversations with Missy: Kristen Merlin
Reality television has given many of today's hottest musicians their start. One of these shows (my favorite) happens to be NBC's The Voice. Recently I caught up with Kristen Merlin from Season 6. This girl, in my opinion, was the best female contestant on the show thus far. Her vocal abilities combined with her emotional and passionate delivery of each song made me an instant fan. It was no surprise to me that she finished in the Top 5!
Before being a contestant on the popular hit television show, Kristen earned many other remarkable credits. In 2009, Boston Nightlife Awards named her "South Shores Best Acoustic Solo Act". Listening to her speak about what it was like to earn that award was exciting. Her energy and surprise were easy to imagine. In 2011, Kristen sang the National Anthem at Fenway Park in what was a stunning display of perfect pitch and delivery. It brought tears to the eyes of many. It was simply a beautiful moment.
In 2012, Kristen won the opportunity to sing on stage with Sugarland in Las Vegas. It was clear to me after watching her many covers of Sugarland songs while on The Voice that she was a huge fan. I could not wait to hear what this experience was like for her. Listen to how she described that amazing moment during our conversation. We also spoke about her stage presence. Kristen is such an incredible artist and when you watch her you cannot help but feel the emotion wrapped in each lyric. It was during her performance of Lee Brice's, I Drive Your Truck, that I found myself in tears. She made the audience believe and feel the heartbreak in this song. Not every artist can do this and Kristen does it exceptionally well.
