About Daryl Mosley:
Daryl Mosley is more than a renowned singer, songwriter, and musician. He echoes the value of the real American heartland, the place where homespun values and a traditional template still hold sway. His love of small-town life and traditional values remain a constant and resonate through his songs and stories. In a world where conflict and confusion seem to be the order of the day, Daryl offers a reassuring reminder of bygone times when kindness and compassion mattered most, and hometown sentiments were the signposts of dedication and devotion.
As Americana Highways stated so succinctly. “Daryl Mosley’s music is steeped in nostalgia in a solid classic self-respecting folk Americana style.”
The fact is — Daryl Mosley epitomizes the essence of Americana in both his music and memories. He still lives in the small town where he was born and raised, Waverly, Tennessee, and it’s his ties to those environs that not only keep him grounded, but also rooted in the things he holds dear — faith, family, honesty, and humility. As a result, he’s made it his mission to share those sentiments through his craft and creativity.
Happily, his efforts have paid off. He’s achieved 13 Number One singles and numerous honors from SPBGMA (Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America), including Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year.
Those are significant achievements for an artist who’s never had any use for posturing or pretense. He’s maintained his efforts through a philosophy based on the belief that hard work, honesty, integrity, and the courage of one’s convictions provide the right way forward. In addition to averaging 150 live dates a year, he’s also won the admiration of such iconic individuals as Tom T. Hall, Ronnie Milsap, Bill Gaither, and Dave Loggins, all of whom have praised Daryl’s prowess and proficiency. That respect is also reflected in the number of other artists who have recorded his songs — among them, Lynn Anderson, Bobby Osborne, High Road, the Booth Brothers, and The Grascals.
Songwriting superstar Jerry Salley summed it up best when he said, Daryl is “easily one of the finest songwriters in our business.”
That praise has been well-earned. In the 1990s, Daryl first rose to stardom as lead vocalist with the highly heralded Bluegrass group, New Tradition. In 2001, he was asked to join the renowned band, The Osborne Brothers. When, in 2010, he formed his own ensemble, The Farm Hands, they quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed acts within the entirety of Bluegrass realms. His touring career took him to some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the Grand Ole Opry, the Bluebird Cafe, and even West Point.
Then, in 2020, Daryl opted to step out on his own. His first solo album, recorded for Pinecastle Records, was aptly titled The Secret Of Life, and both his fans and the pundits hailed it for its plain-spoken wit and wisdom, elevating it to Number One on the Roots Music Report along with its first single, “A Few Years Ago.” The critics described it as a formidable achievement, garnering the praises of American Songwriter, SiriusXM, Bluegrass Today, Country Music People, Bluegrass Unlimited, MusicRow, Country Standard Time, No Depression, and many others.
His sophomore set, Small Town Dreamer, released in November 2021, scored a similar success, resulting in three Number One singles — “Transistor Radio," “Mama’s Bible” and “He's With Me.” That was followed by the aptly titled album A Life Well Lived (July 2023), which began a steady stride to the top of the charts with three hit singles of its own — “Mayberry State of Mind,” “The Bible In The Drawer" and "Big God.” Each reflects the sentiment and sincerity that are so essential to Daryl’s eloquence and expression.
The kudos of the press seem to sum it up best. No Depression hailed him as “A born storyteller, Mosley delivers tales about hopes and dreams and family and love.” Americana Highways concurred, declaring “Mosley is easily one of the most inspired modern singer-songwriters in whatever genre you put him in and sings with a blessing that might just come from another world.” The Bluegrass Standard echoed those remarks by noting, “If the songwriting Mosley were a pitcher in the major leagues, he would be the 1934 version of the St. Louis Cardinals’ Dizzy Dean. Mosley is a major songwriter, crafting songs that speak right to one’s heart with soothing melodies and poignant lyrics.”
With his new album, Long Days & Short Stories, due for release on Pinecastle this fall, that truthful trajectory continues. With songwriting credits for the album’s ten songs, including one co-write with Rick Lang, it continues to share the poignancy and passion that Daryl’s made his stock in trade. As always, it celebrates the tapestry and tradition of rural America and the hard-working individuals whose overt optimism and personal precepts reflect the idea that ultimate comfort and security reside in the home and hearth.
When one tires of the phoniness and flash that often seems to permeate the musical landscape, it’s comforting to know that an artist like Daryl Mosley still matters. “Fans of my music have come to expect songs about small-town life, family, traditional values, nostalgia, and faith,” he says. “Those are aspects of my personality that are very important to me. This album, like the three previous, is a soundtrack to the mindset that there is a need in today's world for front porches, small churches, and people pulling together during times both good and bad.”
The songs Daryl shares are both rich and resilient, a much-needed reminder of a simpler and satisfying era when sweeter sentiments prevailed, and kindness was a commodity we could count on. It may be impossible to turn back the clock, but clearly, Daryl’s music arguably offers the next best thing.
