Conversations with Missy: Ben Thompson, Nashville Elvis Festival

As I sat in the lobby of the Franklin Theatre speaking with several of the extremely talented Elvis Tribute Artists, I had no idea what I was about to hear when Ben Thompson began to speak. Immediately in love with his accent, I had a "Missy moment" and told him. I am still amazed that if you had not known Thompson was from London, you would never know it by listening to him perform as Elvis.

Of course, being from London, Thompson explained how he tries to keep the audience from being able to distinguish his accent while on stage. I can tell you, he has done a fantastic job, however, what impresses me the most is his vocal ability. This ETA is so good at making the audience feel as though they are listening to the "King" himself.

While I cannot begin to imagine what the judges go through trying to pick a winner for this Nashville Elvis Festival Tribute Artist Contest, what I can tell you is that each of these artists is special and for brief moments you feel as though Elvis is on that stage. I will be frank and tell you that I am so grateful I am not a judge in these contests.

As Thompson explained that he began watching Elvis on YouTube when he was just 5 years old, he shared that his family supported his dreams of paying tribute to Elvis as a career, though they were sure to prepare him for having a "backup plan". Thankfully, Thompson is loving what he does and fans are too.

For more on Thompson and where you can find him performing next, please follow him on social media and check out his website. Be sure to get to an Elvis festival near you soon. Once you attend one, you will want to see more. These ETAs have done an amazing job at bringing the "King" back to life on stage. ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
