Conversations with Missy: Don McLean
With the 1971 album release of American Pie, Don McLean became an instant musical sensation. Through the tough challenges and losses our world faced during previous years, the title track provided a rebirth of life for music fans across the globe. This song was monumental and has become one of the most iconic songs in the history of music.
Though his career includes many more accomplishments than the release of the hit “American Pie”, many fans will agree that it was this song that made them a fan. What keeps these fans coming back for more is their thirst for superior songwriting and story-telling.
Fans are not the only ones thirsting for McLean’s ability to write outstanding lyrics. Well known artist, George Michael, chose to record “The Grave” off the American Pie album as it closely reflected the feelings Michael had surrounding war in Iraq.
During my conversation with McLean, we spoke of the importance of good music. While we all know that some music today lacks emotion, depth, and valuable content, McLean has not stopped creating music with deep rooted emotions, passion, harsh reality, love, etc. His latest song “Ain’t She a Honey” is humorous yet dipped in cold reality. This song is one that I will definitely be keeping on my playlist for years to come.
I must admit that knowing I was going to get to speak with this musical genius and icon, I felt extremely nervous and intimidated. Soon into our conversation, that was put to rest. Please listen to our full conversation now. Get to know the man behind one of the most successful songs of all time and hear what he has coming up next. I am so honored he agreed to take time out of his very busy schedule to bring you all into his world for a few moments.
McLean is an artist committed to providing his fans and the world with first-rate music. He has found a place in the social media world and has been hard at work touring, writing, and performing past hits and new songs for the fans and friends he loves.
