Conversations with Missy: Rivers Monroe
As a writer for an entertainment magazine, I am always intrigued by the possibilities. I never know how someone will respond to a question, especially when I do not know them on a personal level. For this interview I really wanted it to be different. I wanted to know them individually.
While reading their Facebook interests, it occurred to me that I needed to approach this interview differently. These guys are unique. They are fun. There was just something about them. They stand out.
Lucky for us, Rivers Monroe, granted us an interview. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!
Missy: Who is Rivers Monroe? What are your names and what do you play? Personalities?
Rivers Monroe:
Mike Monroe – Lead Vocals - Pretty boy, needs constant pampering
Mat Rivers – Keytar and vocals - Think Ben Stiller from Zoolander
Doc – Lead Guitar - #nerdalert
Kirby – Bass and vocals - Feral, untrainable, most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse.
Missy: How long have you been playing together?
Rivers Monroe: "Long enough to put out two albums and be working on a third! It's been a great run and we hope it continues!"
Missy: You guys were on the 2015 Vans Warped Tour, how was that experience for you?
Rivers Monroe: "It was the best! We have never worked so hard in our lives, but it was amazing. We were out meeting new fans/family every morning until the festivities closed down. It was such an honor to meet so many great people and play with so many incredible bands!"
Missy: Were there any moments that stood out to you during that tour? If so, what was it?
Rivers Monroe: "Well all the shows were great, but the Philly show definitely took the cake. There was such an outpouring of support and love from our home town crowd."
Missy: I know you guys have two albums on iTunes right now that includes 27 songs. How has seeing this come to fruition been for you and your families?
Rivers Monroe: "It's really cool. It's kind of strange hearing your music on the radio or seeing a finished product that you created mean something to so many people. We are really proud of what we accomplished but there is so much more to do!"
Missy: In terms of fans and support from family and friends, what has been the biggest groundbreaking moment you have had?
Rivers Monroe: "Again, the Philly (Camden) Warped Tour date was epic. We knew it was going to be big but had no idea it was going to be that big. It was just amazing and we can't thank everyone enough!"
Missy: Your video for “Smart Girls”, whose idea was it for the animation? Did any of you participate in creating the art?
Rivers Monroe: "The idea was from our video producer, Art Varga of Vargaproductions. He just kinda felt it. We had a whole team that actually did the animation, but Rivers is actually an excellent artist and drew up the concepts for the characters."
Missy: Are you planning on acting in any upcoming videos? If so can you give us some insight as to what that will entail?
Rivers Monroe: "Well, “Hero Inside” has also been getting a great response. The entire premise is based on Doc's cousin who struggles with Type-1 Diabetes. He is a hero everyday in what he has to go through and it seems to have struck a chord with a lot of parents and children who are working through similar issues."
Missy: While reading your “Band Interests” on your Facebook page I began laughing and immediately was intrigued by your personalities. Who was responsible for creating those answers?
Rivers Monroe: "Haha... hmmm we don't even remember what's up there. Doc is usually the writer of the group. If it was funny, it was probably him."
Missy: What do you guys have coming up for 2016?
Rivers Monroe: "New album, New videos, New Tours, and a whole lot of tomfoolery."
Missy: Is there anything else you want your fans to know?
Rivers Monroe: "We love you. Thanks for making this past year incredible and we can't wait for the next!"
Thank you so much Rivers Monroe for taking the time to answer these questions! Now, if you have not yet followed them on social media, GO NOW! I had so much fun reading these responses and hope you did as well. Until next time...Missy
