Conversations with Missy: Wade Hayes
June 11, 2015 was a very warm day in Nashville. It was the first day of CMA Fest and the excitement amongst all of the fans from near and far was contagious. It was at the fairgrounds where we sat, just behind the stage in the center of the race track. Two white chairs in the grass seemed to be the perfect setting. In the distance you could hear other performers singing their hearts out for their fans. It was beautiful.
There he is, a cowboy in a white hat with an incredibly inviting smile. “Is this really happening” I thought to myself as he walked over to sit down. And so it began, the conversation I have always wanted to have. Here is a sneak peek.
Missy Wolf: A lot of fans are asking if you have ever considered making a CD of gospel songs or your favorite hymns?
Wade Hayes: “I have considered it. Actually I did one of my favorite gospel songs “Old Rugged Cross” on a friend of mines album last year…”
Missy Wolf: When you’re singing your songs, your emotional songs, is there ever somebody you’re singing about? Is it ever really personal for you?
Wade Hayes: “…of course there are some songs that I have written, that started with the idea of something that I have been through.”
Missy Wolf: Do you ever find yourself waking up in the middle of the night to write down lyrics?
Wade Hayes: “Absolutely. I used to dream songs a lot. I don’t anymore much…”
Missy Wolf: If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing with your life?
Wade Hayes: “I am interested in houses. I love remodeling houses.”
Missy Wolf: If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
Wade Hayes: “Absolutely. There are a lot of things I would change. But, hindsight is 20/20. But we live and learn and I’ve discovered God knows what he is doing and I don’t…”
Missy Wolf: When will you do a Christmas album or song on a CD?
Wade Hayes: “I might do a song, but you know I have to say Christmas to me is for the kiddos. I’ve never been a big Christmas guy. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have children so I kind of ya know, that’s a part of my life that’s really…ya know I don’t think that much about it.”
Missy Wolf: Are there any artists you would like to write a song for?
Wade Hayes: “hmmmmm…artists that I would like to write a song with…you know, I would like to write with Willie Nelson.”
There is so much more to hear, so I encourage you to watch the full interview. Special thanks to Wade Hayes for taking the time to sit with me, Tommy Lemon for filming and Kristin Turner for photographing. Until Next Time! ~Missy Wolf
