Currently embarked on the U.S. leg of their tour supporting the release of 'Burn It Down', The Dead Daisies made a much needed (and appreciated) stop at Mercy Lounge in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dizzy Reed, best known for his work with Guns n' Roses, opened the show with his supergroup of sorts- Hookers & Blow. The band features Reed as their lead singer and keyboardist and oftentimes has a rotating door of featured players. This time around, fans were able to see Reed accompanied by Alex Grossi (Quiet Riot), Robbie Crane (Black Star Riders) and Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig). Representing what Dizzy Reed knows best, Hookers & Blow plays a mixture of Guns n' Roses songs and Reed's solo material, which is a great way to keep the audience engaged. For those who are less familiar with Reed's solo material, having some of their favorite GNR tracks laced throughout some solo work will introduce them to the material and hopefully encourage them to check it out, or even buy a CD after the show. Also featured in the set was a cover of the late and great David Bowie's 'Ziggy Stardust', certainly a crowd favorite and welcomed addition to the performance.

The Dead Daisies open up their blazing 90-minute set with 'Resurrected', which also opens their latest release 'Burn It Down'. Considering the industry standard set runs around 70 minutes, The Dead Daisies really go above beyond with their high energy performance that comes just a couple of hours after their hour-long Guitar Center in-store acoustic performance and Q&A that they undertake before every live show. Their set includes tracks from their last three records, along with covers, solos, and a unique band introduction. For each member to be introduced, the band plays a snippet of a classic track that every rock and metal fan should know- including 'Rock and Roll All Nite', 'Heaven and Hell', 'The Boys Are Back In Town', 'Smoke On The Water' and 'Highway To Hell'. Doug Aldrich and Deen Castronovo display their musical prowess with a guitar and drum solo mid-set which really establishes that this is a band full of seriously talented players. David Lowy, who is the mastermind behind this whole project, stays true to his somewhat 'quiet' personality that he's created off stage, but certainly demonstrates a larger than life performance on stage. As far as performing goes, The Dead Daisies deserve to be headlining arenas. The talent that exists between Marco Mendoza, John Corabi, Deen Castronovo, David Lowy, and Doug Aldrich is unmatched, both in live performance and on record. Closing out the evening, The Dead Daisies brought out Dizzy Reed to play two covers with them, 'Midnight Moses' and 'Helter Skelter'- two songs that definitely pleased the crowd, so much so people even came in from the outside lounge to hear.

All in all, The Dead Daisies put on a genuine rock show which something that concert-goers don't necessarily see very often nowadays. From beginning to end, the band gave fans all of their energy and interacted in a way that displayed that they truly wanted to be there; you would have had no idea that they had played ten shows in the five days leading up to their performance at the Mercy Lounge.

About Jaide Alicia

Jaide Alicia Journalist

For as long as I can remember music has been my entire life. Due to starting my own website about music, my life has turned into a total dream come true. I've been able to interview some of my life idols and make great friends within the industry- something I thought was a complete long shot. On top of music, I went to a great cosmetology school for one year, and although I never finished the curriculum (because I decided music was a better way to spend my time) I still learned a ton about the industry, which has given me the opportunity to write about hair and beauty on many other platforms. I do the best I can to make my family and myself proud, and the best part of my life is seeing what the future has in store.
