CMA Fest 2018 with Missy: Irlene Mandrell

When it comes to CMA Fest, many fans and artists recall the events previous event title, Fan Fair. Though the event has grown and the name has changed, the purpose has remained the same. Serving as the connection between artists and their fans, CMA Fest continues to be quite arguably the largest country music festival in the world.

As I sat with CMA Fest veteran Irlene Mandrell, she joked with me about her ongoing participation in the famed event and how initially she stated that an event for fans would not work. As we shared a few laughs, Mandrell graciously accepted that she had been proven wrong.

During our discussion, we spoke about her latest patriotic project titled Thanks To You. Mandrell explained that the military and first responders hold a special place in her heart and that this project was a "Thank You" to them. Having a father as a WWII Veteran, there is no doubt that this project was extra special for her and her family. With the help of her producer husband Pat Holt, Mandrell was able to successfully execute her vision for this album.

While Mandrell shared stories about the Mandrell Family Band (which included her sister Barbara Mandrell) performing for the military in what were dangerous conditions, Irlene's eyes began to well with tears. Immediately giving her a hug, I was overcome by the amount of gratitude she displayed for military veterans, those serving, as well as her family.

If you have not gotten to know this remarkable artist, please do so now. Irlene also wrote an inspirational book titled God Rains Miracles. Be sure to grab a copy for someone you love along with treating yourself. Also, remember to share her music with someone you know that is serving our beautiful country and do not forget to tell them "Thank You". ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
