Conversations with Missy: Jennifer Paige
If you have ever been to a club since 1998, chances are you have heard the unforgettable tune "Crush". The longevity of this song's success is amazing. While downtown Nashville, Tennessee, on the pedestrian bridge, I was fortunate enough to speak with the artist who brought that song to life, Jennifer Paige.
Though it was a beautiful day, the wind kept trying to interfere with our conversation and actually forced me to chew on my hair a few times. Through the laughter and forces of Mother Nature, Paige and I remained in good spirits and continued our chat.
Her latest album, Starflower, is sure to be a remarkable success for Paige. Having her brother join her on "January" was very touching as that song is a beautiful tribute to their parents who have both passed away. Through personal tragedy, Paige has continued to write and reflect. This new release is very special as it includes the most personal parts of her life. From the loss she suffered to the inclusion of her beautiful daughter as inspiration for the album title, Paige has put a lot of herself into this project.
One of my favorite pieces to this album is her new rendition of "Crush". Putting it simply, Paige has broken this song down to its core and re-recorded it. This new version is simply breathtaking and laced with a much deeper feel. I know fans are going to enjoy this new version as much as they enjoyed the original.
