Conversations with Missy: Joe Bonsall of the Oak Ridge Boys
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be interviewing a legend in the music world. You know the interview is going to exceed your hopes when Joe Bonsall himself brings up Bon Jovi. I was stunned instantly. This man is not only an Oakridge Boy, he is an accomplished author, father, husband, friend and is extremely funny.
There were so many things I wanted to know about Bonsall. He is a brilliant writer. Something about his book titled G.I. Joe & Lillie intrigued me. He wrote a song with the same title. Which came first? If you listen to the song, you cannot help but think there is a true story behind it. Who is it about? You need to listen to our conversation to find out.
What else has this Philadelphia-born musician accomplished? One, he married one hell of a gourmet cook. Bonsall's wife Mary knows how to impress with her extravagant and delectable meals. As a woman who loves food, especially a good piece of cow, Bonsall and I could not help but discuss his wife's cooking and great steakhouses. According to Bonsall, we must all go to "Taste of Texas" in Houston, TX. During his recent visit to this incredible food establishment, Bonsall ran into some famous friends that joined him for dinner. Any guesses? Find out if you are right by listening to our conversation.
Bonsall and I shared many laughs during our conversation. I am still amazed at how gracious he was, spending 45 minutes on the phone with me. I was completely fascinated by his charming personality. We spoke about God, responsible pet ownership, cracking up cars, computers and more. Wait until you hear which computer he had. This man is phenomenal.
I was not sure what to expect during our conversation though this 2015 Country Music Hall Of Fame inductee sure surprised me. I even walked away with an interesting piece of Elvis trivia that I bet most of his die hard fans never even knew. Do you want to know what that is? Of course, you do. Listen and hear for yourself.
There are so many wonderful things I can say about this extraordinary musician, but this article would then turn into a book. I feel very blessed that Bonsall gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. I will cherish each of the stories he chose to share with me and hope you will too. Bonsall's personality has attracted many fans over the years including the very talented David Britt, who credits Bonsall as one of his heroes, and the Marcus Lindsey Band, who claim Bonsall is a "guitar slinging animal." Stay tuned for more as this man has no desire to stop anytime soon. ~Missy
