Jason Michael Carroll: A Journey Through Country Music, Faith, and Family

Jason Michael Carroll, born June 13, 1978, in Youngsville, North Carolina, grew up in a strict Christian household where secular music was forbidden. The son of a minister, he discovered his voice in church and later joined local bands while working at a motor company. In 2004, he won the WRAZ FOX 50 “Gimme the Mic” contest, launching his professional career. By 2006, he signed with Arista Nashville, and his debut single “Alyssa Lies”, a powerful song about child abuse, reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

His 2007 debut album Waitin’ in the Country topped the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200, marking one of the strongest launches for a new male country artist in years. It produced three Top 40 hits, including “Livin’ Our Love Song” (No. 6). His 2009 follow-up Growing Up Is Getting Old reached No. 7 on the country albums chart with hits like “Where I’m From” and “Hurry Home.” After leaving Arista in 2010, Carroll released independent projects including Numbers (2011), What Color Is Your Sky (2015), and his first gospel album Rest My Soul (2024), reflecting his faith and journey to sobriety.

A U.S. Marine veteran and devoted family man, Carroll has four children and often prioritizes them over touring. He remarried his high school sweetheart, Wendy, and draws inspiration from personal experiences, such as his mother-in-law’s battle with Alzheimer’s for the 2022 single “Tell Me Your Name (Diane’s Song).” His music spans heartfelt ballads, party anthems, and faith-driven tracks, including recent collaborations like “Nothin’ But Country” with Petey Pablo in 2025.

Carroll remains an active performer, supporting causes like Marine Toys for Tots and headlining venues across the U.S. in 2024 and 2025. He starred in the 2019 film Strings and continues releasing music independently through For the Lonely Records. His catalog reflects authenticity, resilience, and deep emotional connection with fans.

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
