Conversations with Missy: Henry Winkler

Gallatin Comic Con was abuzz with excitement, not just for the array of comic books, cosplay, and celebrity guests, but particularly for the presence of the legendary Henry Winkler. Known for his iconic role as The Fonz on "Happy Days," Winkler has since expanded his legacy through acting, directing, and now, storytelling in a new format - Audio Books. During my interview with Winkler, he shared insights into his latest project, "Being Henry: The Fonz... And Beyond," cracked jokes, and shared his memorable stint on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Henry Winkler's journey from the leather-jacketed cool of Arthur Fonzarelli to the introspective storyteller of "Being Henry" marks a significant evolution in his career. His new memoir, released this year, provides listeners with a candid, heartfelt exploration of his life, both on and off the screen. During our conversation, Winkler expressed how exciting it was to share his story in his voice, literally and figuratively.

The memoir delves into his struggles with dyslexia, his rise to fame, and his reflections on life beyond the character that made him a household name. Winkler's narrative style, warm, engaging, and funny, draws listeners into moments of his life with the same charm that endeared him to fans decades ago.

Winkler wasn't just there to discuss his memoir/Audio Book, instead, he transformed the event into a personal meet-and-greet, engaging deeply with fans, signing autographs with a genuine smile, posing for photos, and taking his time to connect with each admirer who waited patiently in line.  His presence was a highlight for many, offering a mix of nostalgia, inspiration, and overall excitement.

Winkler's meet and greet sessions were a masterclass in celebrity interaction. His enthusiasm was undeniable as he greeted fans up and down the long line and encountered memorabilia that ranged from the whimsical to the awe-inspiring. The pièce de résistance was undoubtedly a life-size cardboard cut-out of Winkler himself, which drew laughs and a playful response from the star. "I've never been this tall before," Winkler quipped, much to the delight of the crowd. Winkler even joked about the cardboard version of himself during our fun interview.

Fans left with more than just autographed items; they carried stories of personal connection. One attendee poignantly remarked, "Meeting Henry was like revisiting my childhood. Yet, hearing him speak about his struggles with dyslexia, his advocacy, and his personal growth, you realize here's a man who's lived a rich, inspiring life and continues to give back."

Winkler's appearance at the Gallatin Comic Con transcended the typical celebrity encounter. It morphed into a celebration, a testament to a career that has not only entertained but has also profoundly impacted lives. From his days as the leather-jacketed, thumb-up-giving Fonzie to becoming a voice that resonates in the hearts of listeners through his audio narratives, Winkler's journey illustrates a man who has not only embraced his legacy but has expanded it. His continuous evolution as an artist, advocate, and educator underscores that, indeed, there is much more to Henry Winkler than meets the eye or ear. ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
