Conversations with Missy: Aaron Watson

I have always been a fan of the underdog. Rooting for them every chance I can and celebrating when they achieve victory gives us all hope. At some point in life, most of us, in fact, feel like the underdog. For Aaron Watson, his latest CD titled The Underdog is full of true stories taken straight from his real life experiences. While the common theme of the album is about the underdog, each of the songs are real, inspirational, heartwarming and completely entertaining. My favorite is “Fence Post.” If you have not heard it yet, you are missing out. I have included his video containing the story behind "Fence Post."

Watson performs hundreds of shows every year as a completely independent artist. Having his own record label and collaborating with artists such as Billie Joe Shaver and Willie Nelson are just part of his many successes as a country music artist. Watson’s song "That Look," debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country Digital Songs Chart. Written about his wife Kimberly, “That Look” was one of the most successful independent single releases of 2014. Also notable; The Underdog is the first independent album to reach #1 on the Billboard Country charts.

While watching Watson perform we noticed that there were three crosses on his guitar. I had to ask him about it during our conversation. Listen to what Watson had to say about that along with a hidden surprise. It is clear that his faith and his family are the most important things to him. We spoke about his daughter and his thoughts about her entering the music business one day. His support and love for his family are genuine and beautiful to see.

As I spoke with Watson on camera at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, Ca., I discovered that not only is he an extraordinary country singer/songwriter, he is also quite funny. The laughter continued long after our camera was turned off. As you will see in our video, I clearly missed some great moments that you will be sure to pick up on, further proving a point I made to Watson during our conversation.

Please go follow this completely real country artist on social media now. Grab a copy of his latest CD The Underdog and tell me which song is your favorite. If you have not yet watched our conversation, go hit play now. I know you will enjoy it as much as we did filming it. ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
