Rebecca Gayheart spoke about the last days of actor Eric Dane in an interview with Maria Shriver that aired Tuesday, Nov. 3, on NBC's Today, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The conversation was timed to the release of Dane's posthumous memoir, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments.

Dane, known for Grey's Anatomy and Euphoria, died in February. The Hollywood Reporter said his death came less than a year after he made his ALS diagnosis public. Rolling Stone reported that he died on Feb. 19 at age 53 of respiratory failure related to the disease.

Gayheart said Dane had been to the hospital many times before and had always come home afterward. She told Shriver she did not realize his last admission would be different. "I had no idea that that was it, that that week was going to be our last week," Gayheart said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. She said their daughters also did not know, and that it took a few days for the family to understand what the trip meant.

Gayheart said the situation changed around the third day of the hospital stay. "Everything shifted," she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, describing a change in how the doctors spoke to the family.

She also described how the family spent that week. She said she and the couple's daughters stayed with Dane in his hospital room for family sleepovers and played his favorite music, per The Hollywood Reporter.

The memoir is published by The Open Field, Shriver's imprint, according to a report on Yahoo. Separate coverage on Yahoo reported that the book is available in hardcover, e-book and audiobook formats, and that actor Jacob Elordi narrates the audiobook. Shriver also narrates part of the audiobook, AOL reported.
