"Resistol" from Alabama's Randy Cobb Set to Release July 31st
Alabama’s own Randy Cobb is ready to drop a rousing new honky tonk tune called “Resistol” and you’ll want to presave it with the link below, because just like Resistol hats, it’s an attention-getter.
I spoke briefly with Cobb to hear his thoughts on the new music and he’s feeling excited and confident that this one might just move all the necessary needles to do well on radio and at live shows. Co-written with Canadian artist Aaron Goodvin and produced by Jeff King, it has a unique theme and is guaranteed to generate some good fun wherever it’s played. Adding a whole lot of country zest to the record is Tammy Rogers King of the SteelDrivers on fiddle.
The single tells the tale of a guy just trying to have a good time with the boys at the local watering hole when a young lady in a Resistol hat enters and steals his heart. Cobb confessed that he’s always had a thing for women in cowboy hats and tight jeans. He’s just a one-hundred percent country boy who loves country girls, and that’s all it took to inspire him to write the song.
Lyrics in the song mention dancing and even though Cobb still enjoys a slow dance, he isn’t doing anything crazy on the floor anymore, but back in the day, he was all about that. He also shared that when it comes to writing songs, ballads come to him much easier than upbeat numbers. “I could write ballad after ballad all day long, but the upbeat ones require more time for me.” Oddly enough, he said he and Goodvin knocked out “Resistol” quickly.
“Resistol” will drop Friday, July 31st and will be shared with the masses via a radio tour beginning August 3rd. He’s hoping to hit the road for live shows in mid-September. Our time was running out so I asked him a random question, just for fun. “When people find out what you do for a living, what is the most typical question they ask you?” Within seconds Cobb responded, “They ask me if I ever got to work with anyone famous.” He then added that he imagines that’s common for artists and I’m sure it is. Actually, he has had that opportunity, naming Craig Morgan and Mark Wills as just two of those big name people he’s shared stages with.
Last, but not least, what in Randy Cobb’s life, so far, has been his most memorable “Center Stage” moment? “I’d say when I was able to walk into Warner Brothers in downtown Nashville. Not everybody gets that chance, it’s really hard to get to that point and not everyone does. When I walked in there I was over the moon.” While he ultimately was passed over for a deal with Warner, just getting far enough to have the appointment was something he cherishes, and he’s also remained friends with the woman he met with over the years, which he’s grateful for.
