Nashville Songwriter Awards set for Sept 20 at the Ryman

The Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) is getting set for their fifth annual Nashville Songwriter Awards. The event, presented by City National Bank, will take place at the Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday, September 20.

It is shaping up to be a gala event with a slate of performers who will take the stage to honor their favorite songwriters and award winners. The artist lineup already includes: Pat Alger, Tony Arata, Babyface, Kent Blazy, Luke Combs, Jacob Davis, Jordan Davis, Gayle, Hardy, Walker Hayes, Josh Jenkins, Little Big Town, Matt Jenkins, Matt McGinn, Parmalee, Thomas Rhett, Matt Rogers, Jenn Schott, Nathan Spicer, Alana Springsteen and Matthew West with more to come.

During the show, recipients will be announced for Song of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Songwriter-Artist of the Year in addition to the ’10 Songs I Wish I’d Written’ Awards.

Previously announced honorees include:

Garth Brooks - Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award

Ashley Gorley - NSAI Songwriter of the Decade

Jon Platt (Sony Music Publishing Chairman & CEO) - NSAI's President's Keystone Award

Taylor Swift - NSAI Songwriter-Artist of the Decade

On a personal note, I believe my fellow Kentucky native, Ashley Gorley, deserves a ‘Songwriter of the Century Award’ based on the amazing number of hit songs he has penned.  Of the 300+ cuts on his list of credits, he has notched up at least sixty Number One songs. I say ‘at least’ because, by the time you read this, it will probably be more than that!

If you’re wondering how the ‘Decade’ winners are selected, here’s an explanation: Decade award winners are determined by their cumulative songwriting success between the designated years (2010-2019), where points are given by calculating the percentage of songwriting credit in a Nashville-associated song and tracking each song’s performance on a week to week basis in the Top 20 of the Billboard Country Airplay Chart, Billboard Pop Songs Chart, Billboard Christian Airplay Chart or Billboard Rock Airplay Chart. For the ‘Songwriter-Artist of the Decade’ award, there is the additional requirement that they must be the recording artist as well as a credited songwriter of the song for points to count.
