Press Release: Grammy Award Winning Artist, John Berry, Hits #1 with "Don't Think I Ain't Country"
As country music fans, John Berry needs little introduction. From the '90s hits to his current EP Thomas Road featuring "The Richest Man" to his battle with throat cancer, Berry fans have joined him throughout the many ups and downs of his journey.
During my very first interview with Berry, I remember being so nervous as we sat in one of the many artist green rooms backstage at the Grand Ole Opry. My nerves were quickly settled as we sat and talked about similar surgeries we each had on our vocal cords and what the experience had been like for him. That was the moment I felt like we had a bond. One that I knew would be unbreakable.
As our interviews continued with each new achievement, Berry's new chapter in his life story was just beginning. The news of a diagnosis with throat cancer was devastating. Though Berry remained positive and upbeat, I found myself crying in front of the computer in disbelief.
Keeping the faith and following his journey allowed us to watch his friends and peers in the music industry put together a beautiful benefit show that we were lucky enough to be a part of. His fans, his friends, and most importantly his family all came to support his fight and show him what he means to them. It was touching and I am pretty sure everyone in attendance was brought to tears by the overwhelming amount of love in that room.
As Berry continued to get stronger, he began to tour. We could not help but want to be a part of that so we invited Berry to be on our live music show at The 615 Hideaway. He agreed. By far, that was one of my favorite shows. It was beautiful and emotional.
As we now fast forward to this year's Country Radio Seminar (CRS), Berry joined us once again to talk about his new musical guest appearance on the newest single by Joe and Martina called "Give Me Back the '90s" as well as the beginning stages of putting together a book about his life's journey, and even shared an unbelievably funny story on how he met his wife of 32 years, Robyn.
This interview is definitely one for the books. I can say without hesitation that our latest conversation was the most special. The reason I say this is that while I have loved each conversation we have had over the years which were all meaningful, I truly believe that this moment will have everyone laughing, smiling, and simply having fun watching the artist that they love live life to the fullest.
If you have not had the chance to watch this conversation, please make sure you do and that you watch until the very end as Berry shares a surprisingly funny moment. ~Missy
