NASHVILLE, TENN. (October 24, 2018) – Warner Music Nashville / Warner Bros. Records artist MORGAN EVANS is making his mark with his debut U.S. album, THINGS THAT WE DRINK TO. The Australia native’s new project is the only album to debut in the Top 10 of this week’s Billboard Top Country Albums Chart.
Connecting with listeners stateside and across the world, the album has surpassed more than 72,000 album equivalents in America, while accumulating an impressive 110,000 album equivalents globally. The exciting release has also garnered 80 million combined streams.
THINGS THAT WE DRINK TO has impacted fans and critics alike with praise pouring in for Evans’ sonically diverse collection of tracks:
“…a truly revealing debut, both personally and artistically.”
– Rolling Stone
“…one of the most life — and love — affirming releases in country music this year.”
– PEOPLE.com
"Morgan Evans brings eclectic musicality, relentless optimism to Things That We Drink To”
– MusicRow
“Evans uses the project as a way to show his growing fanbase what he’s capable of achieving – and they’re bound to want to continue growing alongside him.”
– Sounds Like Nashville
“Celebration is an overall theme of Things That We Drink To…”
– Taste Of Country
Last week was one of firsts for Evans, as he made his U.S. morning television debut on NBC’s TODAY. Rolling Stone lauded the “loop-savvy” rendition of his #1 smash single “Kiss Somebody,” noting Evans gave “one of his signature performances, building his track on the fly, one part at a time.”
Inspired by the past two years of Evans’ life – including moving, marriage, and a lost loved one – each of THINGS THAT WE DRINK TO‘s 11 personal tracks were co-penned by the adept songwriter with the album’s producer, Chris DeStefano. Evans opened up to PEOPLE.com about his whirlwind journey from leaving Australia to releasing his American debut, which the outlet proclaimed “an epic story, with or without a musical setting.”
In addition to breakout success in the States, the rising star continues to make waves in his home country with THINGS THAT WE DRINK TO. The album arrived at #1 on the ARIA Top Country Albums Chart and scored a Top 5 debut on the all-genre ARIA Top Albums Chart. Evans’ current single “Day Drunk” has held the #1 spot on Australia’s Music Network Country Airplay Chart for 15 consecutive weeks, while soaring to #2 on the all-genre Radiomonitor Chart — a nearly unheard-of feat for a Country act.
Recently released to U.S. Country radio, “Day Drunk” is already turning heads, celebrated as “bright as sunshine” (MusicRow) and a “slam-dunk” (Rolling Stone). Following a jam-packed listening party in Chicago, IL, Taste Of Country noted the upbeat single is “a song that had the audience already singing along and further indicating that the Aussie might have another hit on his hands.”
Catching the attention of Country’s hottest acts, Evans has been tapped to support Old Dominion on the MAKE IT SWEET TOUR to kick off 2019, before joining the first leg of DAN + SHAY THE TOUR. He’ll round out 2018 on Chris Young’s LOSING SLEEP WORLD TOUR through December, with upcoming shows in Evansville, IN (10/25), Milwaukee, WI (10/26), and Champaign, IL (10/27).
