In October of 2017, famed artist Anita Cochran began a blog that would rattle many of her fans and fellow country music artists. Boldly, Cochran announced that she was now a statistic of breast cancer. Deciding to create a blog, Cochran allowed herself to be vulnerable and ask for prayers as she embarked upon a difficult journey.

"I am starting a blog to document my Journey to Healing. This blog is not about me being brave. I’m choosing to share my journey openly in hopes of helping others. Some women choose to go through this privately, some announce they have breast cancer, but they don’t give details of their cancer and treatment. I never realized how many types of breast cancer there are and the kinds of treatments available for each one. Please feel free to comment on my blog posts. I gladly welcome any helpful tips from fellow warriors, as well as encouragement and prayers. I hope I can offer the same to those who need it.

xo Anita"

Cochran has written several entries on her blog, including the discovery of her cancer, treatment, and the reality of chemo. Being open about her journey is something that can inspire others.  As those affected by cancer explore their recent diagnosis or even a loved one's diagnosis, they will find the detailed truth about the harsh reality of a life with cancer in Cochran's "tell it like it is" blog.

The honesty within her blog has made many feel as if they were fighting together. Presenting facts and truth with positivity is definitely something those affected by cancer need to hear. Old or young, male or female, cancer has been there. For some, hearing someone else's story makes a lasting impact and creates an immeasurable amount of hope.

One of the ugly truths about cancer is that you have to fight hard. Cochran's fight with aggressive chemo treatments is not the only fight she faces. As an artist, touring is a major part of your livelihood.  You can imagine that without the ability to tour, Cochran's fight is just beginning. This is just another harsh truth that comes with any sickness... the financial burden. This is where her support team comes in.

Like many communities, the music community takes care of its own. We have seen this often. Thankfully, country artist and Cochran's good friend Terri Clark has organized a benefit for Cochran called; A 90's Country Night: Unplugged. Clark and some of her friends are getting together to help. Clay Walker, Steve Wariner, Suzy Bogguss, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Ty Herndon, Wade Hayes, The Lynns, Bryan White, Mandy Barnett and Crystal Gayle will all come together on March 13, 2018, at Nashville's 3rd and Lindsley to help their dear friend as she battles the toughest fight of her life.

I reached out to a couple of her friends to express their feeling about Cochran and this benefit. Clark and Hayes responded below.

“Anita and I have been friends for many years.  We’ve shared the stage countless times and share our love and passion for country music.  I lost my mom to cancer in 2010 and have seen the suffering and devastating effects it can have on not only the person battling the disease but also those who love them the most.   I am honored to help organize this benefit and am proud of the fact that every artist I called to perform jumped at the chance to help our friend.   It’s a testament to our country music family and community coming together to help a friend in need. I’m proud to be a part of what will prove to be a beautiful and very special evening.” -Terri Clark

“I’ve known Anita many years and always considered her one of the most talented and kind people I knew. I, of course, was very upset to hear her news but was honored Terri called me to participate in the concert. I pray for her a full recovery and am confident the concert will be a huge success. She has many friends that care about her in our community. “ -Wade Hayes

If you have the chance to be a part of this wonderful cause, I encourage you to go. Spread the word and make the world shine a little brighter for Cochran and all those fighting a battle with cancer. ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
