Conversations with Missy: Ben Rue

by Missy Wolf / 2485 days ago / Comments

Born and raised in Oregon, Ben Rue grew up like many other kids. Working on his parents 2,000-acre grass seed farm, Rue often found himself dreaming of a future as a baseball player or singer. Making up his own songs and getting caught by his father singing them while working, must have made for some great memories.

Gaining a college scholarship to play baseball at Concordia University may have seemed like destiny, though Rue would eventually realize that it was music that had his heart. During his Sophomore year in college, Rue picked up the guitar and began to learn how to play. Continuing to work on his family's farm after graduation, Rue decided to form a band of his own. Having a new way to create music now that he could play the guitar led him to begin performing his music regionally.

What came next for Rue was the opportunity to successfully audition for the hit television show The X-Factor. The support Rue was shown in addition to the experience of The X-Factor ultimately led to Rue's decision to move to Nashville in 2012 to pursue his dream of a career in music.

Fast forward to day two at CMA Fest 2017. Not having had any coffee that morning in the media room, there I sit with bright-eyed and happy, Rue. Not knowing that Rue is one that I would soon be calling "My people", this artist had me laughing and acting silly from the very beginning of our conversation. I even found myself once again talking about Farmer's Only.

During our fun conversation, Rue shared his latest album Back To The Nights and the hard work that went into creating it. We spoke about his busy performance schedule during CMA Fest, playing at the iconic Wildhorse Saloon, his upcoming wedding and even joked about his booth number at Fan Fair X. There is a reason I am not writing those numbers down, so you will have to watch our full conversation for the entire story.

Rue is on his way to having a remarkable career in music. With an already packed performance schedule, Rue is also tying the knot in September. Watching him light up as he spoke about it, I could not help but be thrilled for him and his bride to be. Good things are definitely in store for Rue and his wonderful family.

For more on this talented artist with a great personality, please follow him on social media now. Be sure to grab a copy of his latest release too. The song titles alone had me wanting more. Until next time, "Put a ring on that", enjoy our video and share it with your friends. ~Missy

About Missy Wolf

Missy Wolf Co-Founder, Editor, Journalist & Vice President of the American Country Music Association

From an early age I knew music and entertainment were in my blood. I have always been enamored with the idea of being in this industry, though I never wanted to be a front and center "Star". Taking the audience behind the scenes for up close conversations with the artists they love is where I want to be. Life in lyrics has always been my style, so as my favorite country artist Wade Hayes sings, I am living my life and chasing my dreams! Conducting interviews, meeting talented people and sharing stories and adventure are my passion. My new favorite hashtag is #iaskyouanswer, so stay tuned for more interviews, articles and adventures!
